"He's just trying to make us pity on him. What an imagination he has!" (Elie pg. 17)
I think this mean that he has made the whole story up just so they will feel bad for him. He is the type of person that would use his wild imagination to make the story up just so they would take pity on him. It means that he wants everyone to feel bad for him and help him.
"However, our first impressions of the Germans were most reassuring." (Elie pg. 19)
I think this means their first impressions of the Germans were right. They were supporting the Germans and in return the Germans were treating and being polite to the the Jews. Thus, giving the Jews a reassuring feeling. They never would ask for anything more than the impossible and they never put them down.

Rocky Mountains Snapshot
It was a cold day atop the Rockies. It had been a long hike and were weren't ever half way to the top. We started off walking through some crunchy leaves, but as we got closer to the top we stumbled into so cruchy, cold snow. From about the middle of the mountains all the way to the peak, it was covered with a white blanket layer of snow. We had just stopped to rest for a while. I took a deep breath in and the bitter coldness of the air burned the back of my throat. Looking out over the land below us we could see a narrow street passing through the mountains. Over to the right of us through a valley we could see another part of the mountain range. Gazing down over the valley was a golden ray from the sun. The sun's golden ray glaring off the sun lit up the valley like a light shining off a diamond, and we could see everything. Looking at the other mountain was beautiful. Seeing the top of the mountain covered with snow and the bottom covered in leaves. The wind was blowing, the trees were swaying like they were dancing to music.
Once we made it to the top, we couldn't believe our eyes. Looking down upon the street and the cars from so far up they looked like ants. You see everything from a different perspective when you are at the top. You can see the grey shadows of the Rockies for miles. The wind was more harsh, but I didn't care. Being at the top of the Rockies made you feel more attracted to nature. The Rockies are full with life. You can hear birds chirping all around, squirrels rustling in the leaves, and deer running through the snow. I almost didn't want to leave.

An Outsider's View
Crooks is a black man that has a crooked back and he is old. Crooks is treated differently because of his color and race. Everyone that works on the ranch isolates themselves from Crooks. Crooks is a nice man, he does his work, and keeps to himself.
When I first moved to West Virginia I did not fit in very well. I was often called a city-boy because I grew up in a city in Florida. I felt bad about being called a city-boy. It made me feel unwanted, uncomfortable, and angry that no one would let me in their little group. I was treated totally different from the others. I was made fun of and I wasn't wanted. Everyone just blew me off.
This made me feel horrible about group control. It really sucks when you try tpo fit in with a group of people and all they do is make fun of you. Now that I have changed who I am I fit in with groups and I see the same things that happened to me happening to other kids. I think its wrong and I think if someone wants to fit in you nedd to give them a chance and really learn about them and see what they are really like. You never know you might grow to really like that person.

Fitting In
No one should be able to control you, your thoughts, talents, or anything. Everyone needs to be their own person. No two people should be the same. If the government is controlling you then that means that they are still better than everyone else. People need to be able to express their own thoughts, show off their talents, show their strengths, and weaknesses. Being yourself is what makes you who you are, and what makes our world interesting. If everyone was the same then our world would have no life, it would be dull, and bland, no talent, there would be nothing.
Yes, sometimes it is hard to be yourself without getting made fun of, or even you making fun of other people. Most people make fun of other people because they are jealous of you. They think you are better than they so they have to put you down to make themselves feel better, and so they feel like they fit in. Being yourself is the best way to show personality. Hiding behind someone else and not showing who you really are will make people like you less. So whether you are made fun of or not it is always best to be yourself.
Yes, I believe you can fit in and be yourself at the same time. You don't need to act like someone else to fit in with a group. In all actuality being yourself is the best way to fit in with other people because they get to see and they will learn to know your true personality. Being yourself is most important. If you try to change for other people they will begin to like you less. Fitting in with the norm is nice but it isn't the best. Your true friends and family will accept you for who you so you should not have to change for other people just so you can fit in and be popular.
